Thomas Hardy has been brought well and truly into the 21st century, thanks to a brand new iPhone Application created by Andy Pulman.

The App helps you to explore those parts of Dorset which inspired Hardy to write his world renowned novels and poetry. It makes it easy for you to plan a tour of Hardy’s Wessex following either a shorter inner route which takes in key locations, a more extensive outer route which offers a fuller Hardy experience or plan your own bespoke route.

The self-guided tours take in Hardy’s birthplace, towns and villages from his stories, and the green and pleasant landscape of the county of Dorset, so beautifully portrayed in his written word. The App features easy to use, location-based technology, which helps you stay en route and shows you how close you are to each location as you make your way round.

In addition to trail information, the App features a chronological journey through Hardy’s life as an architect, novelist and poet, as well as background information on the circumstances and influences which led to the writing of each of his novels.

The Thomas Hardy Trail App is now available to buy from the iTunes store, and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
